: PROJECT :
CREATION OF MUSEUM - REFLECTIONS OF NATIONAL MUSEUMS
* The aim of this project
The goal of this project is to transform the former state house of President Juvenal Habyarimana into a museum. Situated in Kigali city, not far from Kanombe Airport, the museum will be an overview of public and private Rwandan museums, hence it’s name Museum House. To help visitors and others who don’t have enough time and /or money to visit all the museums of Rwanda, this museum strives to introduce each museum in brief through various artifacts and displays. Moreover, the museum will also be a center for documentation, education and research related to Rwanda's second republic. It was this republic which experienced the 1994 genocide. Finally, this museum will promote and bring to life different aspects of Rwandese culture. It will offer to visitors different sorts of attractions, such as handcrafts, art and entertainment.
* Activities which will be done
To realize these aims, many projects will need to be undertaken. The renovation, augmentation, and rehabilitation of the whole site are priorities.
Renovation of two existing residence buildings:
Augmentation of the site:
Rehabilitation of the farm
After rehabilitation and setting up all infrastructures, we shall put up an exhibition within which each Rwandan museum will be represented by its artifacts. The exhibition will focus on the history of the second republic as mentioned above. In order to make this museum more appealing to visitors, a cultural group will be created to perform regularly. For this reason, a big space will be developed in order to accommodate artistic and cultural events.
Alongside entertainment activities, a training center for museum studies will be created. This will contribute to the development of museum activities in Rwanda as it is among National Museum’ attributions. As a part of the National Museum, the training center will contribute to the development and maintenance of museum in Rwanda.
